After Tuesday night’s decent (somewhat unexpected) cup win against Middlesbrough, some eagle-eyed fans have noticed that there is a rather big match this weekend:
- Derby have moved to cover their shortage of fit strikers by signing veteran striker Paul Dickov
- Former Forest man Kristian Commons hopes to make himself even less popular at the City Ground
- Billy Davies thinks that the midfield will be key to success this season (which will be useful as the strikers aren’t scoring enough and we don’t have any defenders!)

- Young full-back Joe Heath is returning early to the City Ground – but unfortunately he won’t be able to ease our defensive worries as he is crocked as well
Don’t forget that the match kicks off at 1pm; we will be wolfing down some bacon cobs on our way to the ground and celebrating/whinging in the podcast afterwards.

It’s been a while … how you doing? Not much going on over here I’m afraid.
John Pemberton leaves the club as Sport Billy restructures his back-room staff. We’ve also got Bradford City in the first round of the Carling Cup.
Craig Armstrong (remember him?) joins Mansfield. And Ian Breckin has not been short of offers.
It looks like Dexter Blackstock may not be coming – as he looks forward to playing his former club in QPR’s pre-season.
However, we are after Donny’s Brian Stock and some say we are after style-over-substance winger Lee Martin – but I don’t believe that for a second.
Lastly, the excellent LTLF has an interview with James Perchio.

A comfortable victory for Forest, rewarded by a home match against Sunderland. Actually, I am not sure that “rewarded” is the correct word, as Roy Keane is probably one of the few Premier League managers who is likely to put out a strong team for these early stages of the Cup; therefore, this may increase our chances of an early exit. Time will tell.
As I wasn’t at the match, it would be remiss of me to pretend I am in a position to comment. Instead, I will refer you to the likes of the Forest Supporter’s Blog, as well as reflections on the contributions of new boy Lee Martin, and youngsters Joe Heath and Adam Newbold.

What I will say is that I was obviously encouraged by the clean sheet, the goals scored and the contribution of the aforementioned newbies. Success breeds success, and it seems that the mood at the City Ground is quietly confident at the moment.
