<itunes:summary>And so it ends. Quite possibly one of the worst, unpleasant seasons of football we’ve witnessed ended with the amazing Portsmouth fans entertaining us in front of a typical lethargic end of season display.

To be honest, there wasn’t much action during the game. Well there was, but it was mainly half chances and slow paced. At the end of the second half, Dex managed to get two – after missing a hatful of chances earlier in the game (arguably McCleary got the second but it doesn’t really matter).
But in the match report (click the play button to listen) we mainly reflect on the season gone by … from the sacking of Billy Davies, the unravelling of the club under McClaren, the death of Nigel Doughty and the austerity of Frank Clark and Steve Cotterill. It’s not been pleasant – for many months I was convinced we were relegated – but, fair play to the manager – he’s kept us up with some astute signings (not least Sean o’Driscoll). This achievement can’t be overstated; when he took over we were in a far worse state than we were when Joe Kinnear or Billy Davies did, so congratulations Steve. McCleary may have been voted player of the season, but Cotterill is the one who deserves the plaudits. </itunes:summary>

Blackpool – attacking, exciting, fast flowing football. Nottingham Forest – gaining confidence and playing on the floor. A recipe for a great game of football?
Well not quite.
McCleary’s red card meant the return of Paul Anderson on the right hand side. But no other changes saw us line up in our now traditional 4-4-1-1, with Blackpool in more of a 4-2-4. And while the football was pretty, and we made quite a few chances, overall the game was a bit flat. Dexter Blackstock, who looked pretty knackered throughout, had enough chances to get a hat-trick in the first half but it didn’t come off for him. Radi and especially Cunningham also had decent chances, and Blackpool didn’t really make Camp work much.
The second half was scrappier, with the ball in the air a bit more. And Blackpool came into it more – eventually forcing Camp into action. In fact, by the end, we were a bit nervy – I was convinced that we would concede despite having the best of the match.
But we held on till the end, and that puts us seven points clear of the relegation zone. Coventry need three wins and us to lose to drag us down – it’s not mathematical but we’re edging closer to safety.
