New faces provide excitement for Reds fans

In amongst all the excitement over the signing of Billy Sharp, perhaps the most telling moment before the Charlton match, when I mentioned Henri Lansbury’s name, and TBNTM responded with, “I’d forgotten we’d signed him”.

I’ll be honest, the Lansbury signing was, to me, one of the most exciting we have made in years. An Arsenal fan remarked to me how sorry they were to lose him, and believe me, this is no David Bentley situation; they fully expect Lansbury to thrive at Forest.

As if that wasn’t enough, there was the coup of signing Sharp, along with James Coppinger. Sure, Billy may have been a bit vexed by Southampton’s decision to let him go, but that isn’t our problem as he now seems to be determined to prove a point.

Sure, we’ve lost Ishmael Miller, David McGoldrick and Keiron Freeman, but who wouldn’t argue that our new squad is the strongest that we have had for years?

Unfortunately, that may not include Simon Cox for a couple of weeks as he has picked up an injury whilst on international duty. For me, the striker has been a revelation so far, always finding space, with incredible pace and movement, and he has proven that he has a decent shot on him. Still, it ain’t bad to call upon Billy Sharp as a backup…

You may remember me being a bit perplexed by the request to change our squad numbers; I contacted the Football League and they gave me this explanation:

The Football League has a policy which requires clubs to allocate squad numbers between 1 and 40, this is to keep consistency throughout The League. Clubs are permitted to omit certain numbers should they wish to (e.g. 13), whilst common sense must prevail and if a player requests a specific number this should be below 50.
