It’s official…the Al-Hasawi family are the new owners of Nottingham Forest FC.
The announcement was supposed to be embargoed until tomorrow, but Fawaz Al-Hasawi tweeted it himself.
The new home kit will be launched on Saturday, when the new owners will give a press conference and meet some of the fans.
Will this be positive for the club? Well it is obviously good to end the uncertainty and inertia that has surrounded the City Ground, and I expect that we will see some transfers (in and out) in the near future.
However, there will be no gloating here; we don’t know a huge amount about our new owners (although the BBC tried to shed some light), and I certainly don’t expect us to be the next Manchester City – nor do I want us to be. I want Forest to be a well-run, community-centred club, and as in real life, I believe that money buys choice.
A cautionary tale: Nigel Doughty spent £100m and it still wasn’t enough. You can have all the material riches in the world, but spend wisely you must [ends Yoda impersonation].
