New owners? And old owners…

The big news of the last few days – touted as “a done deal” by some, denied by others – is the interest of Kuwaiti Fawaz Al-Hasawi in buying us. Although he’s also interested in buying Leeds United. I was speaking to a nice Leeds fan (yes there are some) last night and he said “I don’t care who it is, just get that git [Bates] away from my club”. Which club has the more pressing needs :-) ?

Some parts of Forest’s future look bright though – four of our young players have pledged their future to the club. But our present is a bit more murky, with rumours that Paul Anderson is on his way, leaving us with no, zero, null, wingers.

Lastly, if you’ve not read this yet, then please take the time to do so. One of the best pieces looking back on the finances during Nigel Doughty’s time at the club: “The Doughty Years: A Financial History of Nottingham Forest FC 1999-2011“. The upshot is our financial “crisis” is of Mr Doughty’s making, as he put his business sense aside and recklessly ploughed as much of his money as he could into Forest – only pulling back when circumstances prevented him. And contrary to Billy Davies’ protestations – the real damage to our finances was the spending done when the Scotsman was in charge. A thought-provoking, sobering and seemingly very well researched piece.
