No new signings: so what’s going on then?

For most Forest fans, your author included, the level of frustration at the lack of incomings is starting to feel rather frustrating. Even allowing for the logic of not signing players for the sake of it (a la Danny Sonner), we desperately need more bodies in the squad, as this well-observed piece of Photoshoppery on LTLF proves:

To add to that, Billy Davies has once again gone to the press with his frustrations, and once again (in my mind) publicly undermined one or two of the youngsters by singling out the likes of Moloney and Thornhill as players who should be going on loan or playing “at a different level” (despite both the kids apparently putting in credible performances in the defeat to Peterborough – I bet Georgie Boyd enjoyed that goal).

As you would expect, there are also rumours circulating that players who have never quite cut it under Billy may be following Joe Garner and Perchio out of the door; rumours include Tys to Southampton and Lewis to Coventry, and the open secret that Neil Lennon is trying to persuade Forest to part with Casual Kelv.

For what it’s worth, I find it hard to believe that the club (both Billy and the rest of the much-maligned Acquisitions Panel) would let players such as Perchio, Garns and potentially Tys and Kelvin go without having other signings lined up. At the end of last week, (hopefully) reassuring voices were being heard to say that there would surely be incomings; with another new kit being launched (which is a personal bugbear of mine and the subject for another debate), perhaps that would be a good time to parade new signings? On the other hand, Sheffield Wednesday rejecting a bid for Jermaine Johnson (a decent player but would hardly be a hallmark signing) doesn’t look promising.

Fpr what it’s worth, and putting my optimistic head on, with no news on the Whittingham bid or the purported interest in Chelsea’s Van Aanholt (i.e. at least they haven’t been rejected), perhaps this is a sign that things may yet happen?
