A short match report today as there’s just me on the podcast and, to be honest, there wasn’t really that much to talk about.
Billy put out a very strong side – definitely looking to consolidate third place:
Perchio Morgan Wilson Gunter
Tyson Majewski Moussi Cohen
Earnshaw Blackstock
And this plan worked out – Plymouth were playing like a relegated side – lots of passing with no real danger. So we just passed our way through them to get two goals in the first half – the first a lovely pass from Majewski (who was looking like he had benefitted from his rest in recent weeks) that Earnie ran onto, the second, what looked like a rebound off Dex’s arse.
The second half had almost no major incidents, before, right at the end, the two subs, Lewis McGugan and Paul Anderson accidentally combined to give us a scoreline that didn’t flatter us.
This leaves us guaranteed of either third or fourth place – so the second leg of the playoffs will be at home. Of course this didn’t help us a couple of years back. And Radio Nottingham’s analysis of the playoffs over the years suggests that position doesn’t matter too much – unless you finish fourth, which is the position to avoid. With Cardiff two points behind us, that means a win at Scunthorpe or a point and Cardiff getting less than plus four goals makes third place ours.
