Well, we have all seemingly accepted that it is to be the play-offs this season. If we manage to finish third, then we may well end up playing either Leicester or Blackpool – the latter could be a tricky proposition as they are one of the in-form teams at the moment. But let’s not count our chickens – while we can cement a play-off place if we beat Cardiff today, a defeat by two or more goals would see the Bluebirds leapfrog us into third place.
In the meantime, Forest are inviting us to vote for our player of the season; obvious candidates are Paul “Kenna” McKenna, Raddy “Radi” Majewski and Lee “Campo” Camp. Chrissy Cohen and Wes Morgan have maintained their status as really important players who can keep the team going just by force of sheer effort, but I would like to mention three men in particular:
Kelvin Wilson: Probably not a player of the year contender, but definitely my nomination for the most improved player. Gone is the languid and unreliable man of the last couple of years, instead we have a strong man who stands tall and has formed a marvellous partnership with Big Wes.
Chris Gunter: The only outfield player to have played in every single minute of the Championship season, the young Welshman has occasionally looked a little wobbly in defence, but has more than held his own by virtue of energy, consistency and his willingness to bomb forward. He has also looked assured when covering at left-back, freeing Chrissy Cohen to help take responsibility in the middle of the park.

Dexter Blackstock: Regular listeners to our post-match podcasts will know that both Rahoul and I have been consistently impressed by Dexter this season. Rahoul has pronounced more than once that if opponents want to stop us playing, they should stop Dex. I agree, as even when Dex isn’t scoring goals, he keeps defenders busy and puts in 100% effort every match. My dark horse as a contender for player of the year.
You can vote for your choice by emailing poy@nottinghamforest.co.uk, until 21st April. Rahoul and I will decide on our choice at the end of the season.
In the meantime, there is the small matter of a match against Cardiff on national telly this afternoon. Come on you Reds!!
