Firstly (as it has been some time since I have been able to write on this site), what a relief to stay up – I had promised our regular reader Kevin that I would mention his thoughts on next season:
This year has ended strongly, and I predict we’ll be challenging for the playoffs next season. I say this because Davies, though clearly a prat who should keep his big mouth shut, does seem to know his stuff… Has this season been a triumph? No. That would have required us to not lose to the sheep after being 2-0 up in the cup, and to have not gone through all the expense and hassle of changing managers yet again. But the mere fact that we’re in the Championship to try again next year means it wasn’t a disaster.
Thanks for your contribution Kevin, and thanks to all those of you who have read and listened to our ramblings through a difficult season. At a time when the blogsphere has been packed with many rival sites from various different backgrounds and perspectives, it has been heartening to have a small but loyal following.

In other news, it has been reported that Billy Davies wants to add either Ched Evans or David McGoldrick to his striking arsenal for next season (with no mention of outgoings); Dexter Blackstock reveals that he is keen to stay with the Reds (a tricky situation to put himself in if it doesn’t work out – just ask Lee Campo); finally, a Saints-supporting conspiracy theorist suggests that Southampton threw Sunday’s match to avoid the cash-strapped club having to pay any win bonuses.
