News roundup: Calderwood, Metgod, Cohen, Mills, Adebola and Jones

Colin Calderwood and Johnny Metgod are on the move – CC may be going to Chesterfield while Metgod is looking to join Nigel down the road.

Sport Billy wants to tie Chris Cohen down to a longer contract.

And he’s reportedly offering £1.5m for Donny defender Matthew Mills – although Brum are apparently going to offer £4m. He better be bloody good for that sort of money.

Dele Adebola has been offered a two year contract with “vast sums of money” to come and join us – which has discouraged our Brian and moneybags QPR from chasing his signature.

And lastly West Brom’s Tony Mowbray joins the Sheep, Dirty Leeds and us in the race for Rob Jones‘ signature (remembering that Mowbray brought Jones to Hibs in the first place).

Beating Derby 3 – 1

Niall Kennedy has just released a new eBook (in PDF/Adobe Acrobat format) detailing the early history of the FA Cup. Including our 1898 3-1 victory of the sheep botherers.
We beat the Sheep three one!
As Niall says:

First published in 1902 in the auspicious Strand magazine, The Teams that Won the World’s Greatest Football Competition 1871 – 1901 is a classic reprint of one of the earliest historical reference materials of the early years of the FA Cup and gives Forest historians and supporters the opportunity to own a really important historical account of the world’s greatest football competition and the first time we lifted the trophy. A time when Forest could claim to be the best team in the World.

More details at “The teams that won the world’s greatest football competition“.

News roundup: three signings (ok, calm down)

New contracts for Arron Mitchell, Shane Redmond and Mickael Darnet – yet to make their debuts for the first team, but it’s looking like we’ll get the chance to see them soon enough.

Billy Davies has got the squad ready for training and is already talking to clubs about signings. But Shaun Barker may not be one of them – especially as Blackpool have already rejected Derby County’s bid for him.

Still no news on Rob Jones as yet, with Hibs wanting to wait till the end of their season before opening talks, while Flash ‘Arry reckons Chris Gunther is not for sale. However, things are looking more promising for Isiah Osbourne as Villa look to shake things up for next season.

News roundup: nine on their way

Eight youngsters and one old biddy are on their way have been released by the club.

Ian Breckin, we all knew about. But he is joined by Emile Sinclair, Adam Newbold, Richard Tait, Hamza Bencherif, Liam Hook, Tom Sharpe, Ryan Whitehurst and Paddy Gamble, despite their success with the reserves this season.

News roundup: on the up

The big news of the day – while Sport Billy is still in for Dele Adebola on a free, “our” Nigel is after Nathan Tyson, for a paltry £400000.

Ian Breckin thinks that we are a club on the up.

Nigel Doughty is putting his hands in his pockets to support Billy.

And we play Rotherham on the 22nd July.

Finally, meet “better than Paul Smith but not as good as Lee Campo” keeper, Peter Shilton – if you are at the Warndon Villages FC Fun Day.

News roundup: Setanta’s future in Doughty’s hands

Agogo is on his way out.

Derby want £5m for KFC.

The fight is on for Paul “Ando” Anderson’s signature.

Sport Billy wants the rest of his loan stars to sign up – including McSheffrey (although Palace are after him as well).

And he’s after Shaun Barker (who I know nothing about) as well.

Lastly, Setanta’s future is in Nigel Doughty’s hands.

News Roundup: Evans or McGoldrick to sign, Dex to stay and did Saints throw the match?

Firstly (as it has been some time since I have been able to write on this site), what a relief to stay up – I had promised our regular reader Kevin that I would mention his thoughts on next season:

This year has ended strongly, and I predict we’ll be challenging for the playoffs next season. I say this because Davies, though clearly a prat who should keep his big mouth shut, does seem to know his stuff… Has this season been a triumph? No. That would have required us to not lose to the sheep after being 2-0 up in the cup, and to have not gone through all the expense and hassle of changing managers yet again. But the mere fact that we’re in the Championship  to try again next year means it wasn’t a disaster.

Thanks for your contribution Kevin, and thanks to all those of you who have read and listened to our ramblings through a difficult season. At a time when the blogsphere has been packed with many rival sites from various different backgrounds and perspectives, it has been heartening to have a small but loyal following.

In other news, it has been reported that Billy Davies wants to add either Ched Evans or David McGoldrick to his striking arsenal for next season (with no mention of outgoings); Dexter Blackstock reveals that he is keen to stay with the Reds (a tricky situation to put himself in if it doesn’t work out – just ask Lee Campo); finally, a Saints-supporting conspiracy theorist suggests that Southampton threw Sunday’s match to avoid the cash-strapped club having to pay any win bonuses.

Nottingham Forest 3 – 1 Southampton

A flattering result for a lacklustre performance.

Smith in goal, Gunther, Chambers, Breckin (c), Lynch across the back, McCleary, McGugan, Moose, Cohen (PotY) in a non-existent midfield and Earnshaw and Blackstock up-front.

Plus the podcast includes some thoughts on the season just past, plus a quick look forwards to the summer and beyond.

News roundup: playing for pride

Tys and Turner are out for tomorrow’s end of season party, but the Mousse may make a return.

While Southampton only have pride to play for.

Dexter Blackstock sounds keen to stay next season (although that may be related to his proposed £3K/week pay rise) – and says Billy will be looking for a top six finish.

Which is exactly what Kris Commons is saying won’t happen across the A52.
