Manchester City 0-3 Nottingham Forest: Quote Unquote

Of course, much of the meeja has focused on City’s capitulation, rather than an excellent away victory for the Reds (surely you should be happy with a 3-0 away win anywhere, never mind against a team a whole division above?).

However, a writer for the Jewish Telegraph (under the rather corny headline of “We’re Cohen to Wembley”), did make the following wry observation:

Brazilian Jo was brought on late in the match but Hughes might have well have brought on Stephen Hawking for all the good he adds to the team.

As I wasn’t there, I couldn’t possibly comment! Elsewhere, in amongst another opinion on where it all went wrong for City, Nathan Tyson offered some welcome words for the Reds’ away support:

Our fans have been fantastic for the last couple of games. It is very hard for them with the credit crunch and everything but they have found the pennies to come and watch us and we really appreciate that and are glad we gave them some kind of reward today.
It is fantastic as a footballer when people go out of their way to come and support you. They are always there. Instead of going to the pub they are there for us, and finally we have done them proud.

I don’t really get to many away matches, largely due to the combined expense of tickets, travel and food (but let’s admit it, I have also been stung by the many matches I have attended where the long journey home is made even longer by the pain of defeat). Given the tough financial times that many of us face, it is good to see Tys acknowledge the supporters, and recognise that, all too often, they have had a raw deal when watching the Reds. Nice one.
