Apparently Sergeant Major Megson is having trouble getting any potential employers to trust him. I very much doubt that we are the club that is giving him bad references, but then he has wound a lot of people up over the years…
This is an interesting argument – West Brom fans don’t seem to be particularly fond of his tactics on and off the pitch, but still seem to hold him in high regard; we all know what most of the Reds fans thought.

More money to the Football League. About a player’s worth for us.

Kelvin Wilson is now a Forest player, as well as a fan (but still has a tattoo on his neck).
The squad numbers have been announced – you can never be sure how much to read into these things, but Perchio now has number 7 – is he going to play right-wing? Wilson has number 2 – is he going to play right-back? Dobie moves to number 11 – does that mean CC sees him as a winger, more than a centre-forward? Probably none of those, but idle minds tend to speculate…
Furthermore, there are some rumours about Andy Cole and some Irish lad being linked with the Reds – these stories seem to hold a lot less weight than, for instance, the Cohen and Davies rumours did. As always, I will believe it when I see it.
Finally, CC has said something about how he is happy with the squad, but does not appear to be ruling out further signings. I personally wouldn’t be surprised to find a new striker, either on loan or on a cheap, short-term deal – at the moment, we only have a couple of fit strikers, and we are also likely to lose Junior Agogo to the African Cup of Nations in mid-season. As a point of interest, did you know that Junior’s real name is Manuel?

According to the official website, Forest have agreed a fee to sign Kelvin Wilson, and hope to agree personal terms soon.
Aside from his playing ability, I am instantly suspicious of Wilson as he appears to have a tattoo on his neck (see pic).

Can someone please explain?
Man Utd are trying to sign Carlos Tevez. West Ham say they have had no contact from Man Utd. Man Utd seem to be negotiating with Kia Joorabchian. West Ham must own Carlos Tevez as it was part of the terms of the court case that any third-party agreements must be terminated and West Ham should wholly own the player.
So:
- Either West Ham don’t own him, have lied to the Premier League, and Joorabchian is free to negotiate his “transfer” to Man Utd; if this is the case, it makes a total mockery of the decision not to dock West Ham points
- Or United are tapping up a West Ham player; interestingly, Sir Bobby Bloody Charlton came out all guns blazing last year, accusing Real Madrid of tapping up Cristiano Ronaldo; he seemed to have conveniently forgotten Stam, van Nistelrooy, van der Sar, Hargreaves, and now (possibly) Tevez. Surely what’s good for the goose should also be good for the gander?
Secondly, I am confused by the Leeds United situation: if I owed £1000 to Revenue and Customs, would they be happy if I gave them £80? If not, how come companies in administration (not just Leeds) are allowed to negotiate such paltry settlements?
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to see Leeds go out of business, but on the surface, there is something grossly wrong if Ken Bates can take the ten-point penalty at the end of the season (which has now been rectified – shutting the door after the horse has bolted), and buy back the club at an inferior price than that offered by other consortia.
I confess that I am not in possession of the facts here, so if someone knows better than me, feel free to paint the full picture (I just can’t help thinking that if I was Rotherham United, I would feel very hard done by).

Off and on and on and off.
I’m sure that if things aren’t going too well at Christmas Grant’s impending transfer will resurface.

I’ve made the decision.
No season ticket for me this year.
First I said if they lower prices. They did.
Then it would take some great signings. They appeared.
But my car was due a service, that cost me a fortune. Coupled with the fact that my renewal pack arrived on the day that tickets went on general sale (a week after the deadline for renewals).
So, with a lot of regret but an empty wallet I decline this year.
Living in Leeds means I can’t often make midweek matches anyway. So the economics don’t really work out. Instead I’ll pick and choose my games (I’ve figured the cost works out about the same). And in a quirk of fate I may make more midweek games than weekend ones (I’ll be working in Leicester, which is a commute and a half).
So apologies in advance if I miss a few match reports. At least Sod’s law may apply – as I have not bought a season ticket we are bound to play beautiful flowing football and walk the league.

As reported by the official website, Didier Agathe will not be joining us; this is because he failed to show up for the training camp.
I don’t know much about Agathe, but I have heard various stories suggesting that attitude, rather than ability, are the problem. He left Celtic because he felt he deserved to be amongst the top brass at the club (presumably in terms of £); the fact that his mentor at Celtic, Martin O’Neill, did not want to sign him after six months at Villa also suggests that something is amiss.
Regardless, if you are hoping to impress a potential new employer, turning up is a good start; if it was someone hoping to get a job with me, I would not even bother with them if they did not show up. I cannot help but think that it is a lucky escape – Agathe would presumably have been on relatively high wages, and if this is indicative of his attitude, we are better off without him.
In other news, BBC Nottingham report that Brecks will continue to be the Reds’ skipper next season – I think this is the right move, despite the arrival of the Lenster. The ginger one should be able to show his influence regardless of whether he is wearing the armband, and it allows for some continuity, while also saving Brecks from the potential demotivating effect/humiliation of losing the captaincy. I did feel sorry for Riccy Scimeca when he lost the captaincy not once, but twice – it is hardly a vote of confidence.
