Let’s put things in perspective

A Blackpool fan speaks on the Forest website:

Being a Blackpool supporter and reading forests fans comments about our recent encounter, i feel compelled to write in. First and formost in all articles i have read through the years, never have i come accross supporters of a club who for want of a better phrase are so “pig headed”about their own club and the opposition. Forest fans think it is a divine right for their club to be in the top flight. all they do is moan and complain, and insult the opposition. What kind of fans winge and moan when their team are on the brink of the playoffs let alone the top two spots. and not only that want the manager sacked? We have been in the lower depths of the football league for years and this could well be our season for promotion and on the way back. I will just remind you Forest fans that it is not a divine right for you or any other club for that matter to be competing in the top flight. You are where you are on merit, in league one,and will be with fans like yours for a few more seasons. A word of advise, stop slagging your team and manager off and get behind them, then you won’t get hammered by a “pub team”. Blackpool dominated that game and should of come away with three points no doubt.
although we’re rivals good luck for the rest of the season.

Frustration in the nation

I haven’t blogged for ages on here – been too busy with work and moving house (for those of you who don’t follow my blog, I have recently moved to Birmingham, therefore I am seen even less frequently at the City Ground).

However, I have been keeping an eye on the Reds’ progress, through Baz’s blogging, the Evening Post site (reading their messageboards is like driving past a car crash), and BBC Nottingham. This has led to my latest article for the BBC. All comments welcome.

Breckin says sorry

There’s something about Breckin I’m not quite sure about but at least he has apologised.

About last night …

Only one thing to say: as I was watching the “live text” on the BBC website and Agogo scored, I knew we were going to draw.

Front Two

We have five strikers at the club: Tyson, Holt, Lester, Agogo, Dobie. With Commons as a possibility in emergencies. Recently we have been playing 2 up front with 1 behind – normally Tyson and Holt with Lester behind.

With Tyson out tomorrow and Commons available, who should CC play?

The wind seems to have gone out of Agogo’s sails – I remember him being described as ‘lazy and drifting in and out of games’. Well that sums his recent performances up perfectly (although he has undoubted talent at this level).

To be kind, I’m not going to pass comment on Dobie. He has been out of the game for a long time and it can take time to readjust. But, as of today, I do not see what he offers us.

That leaves Holt and Lester. I can’t be bothered to look at the stats but I’m pretty sure that Grant’s excellent run of form coincided with his partnership with Jack. And his form dropped once Jack was dropped. Neither is the paciest in the world but Jack is great at winning space (and free-kicks ;-) ) for others and Grant is probably the most clinical of our finishers. Plus Grant can hold it up for someone like Jack to run on to (in a way that Tyson, who plays ‘on the shoulder’ of the defender doesn’t).

So my vote goes for Grant and Jack up-front with Commons offering the creativity behind. This also has the added advantage of an easy switch to an orthodox 4-4-2 if Bennett and Curtis are unable to provide the width required.

PR Blitz

CC talks about where we’re at. Fair play – he needed to come out and make a statement after the weekend, because the frustration across the web is plain to see.

The knives are out …

The calls for Calderwood (and Doughty) to leave have started, unsurprisingly.

Personally, Calderwood is doing significantly better than Megson was using, essentially, the same bunch of overpaid, fat, drunken wasters that couldn’t be bothered to play for the Ginger One. He baffles me with some of his selections. He infuriates me with some of his tactics. But getting rid simply won’t help. Especially when it’s not even spring. Check the average length of stay of managers at this club. That’s the sign of panic, weak leadership, a poorly run club.

But there are some more important questions (and bear in mind that I couldn’t even hear the radio commentary):

What’s up with Tyson? From “nice young man with a lovely smile” to chucking elbows and violent conduct. Is something up in his personal life? Is he unhappy at the club? Who is going to take the time to sort him out (Colin)?

Why was Sammy on the bench?

Where are our transfers? “From a position of strength” was the quote and we’re getting weaker by the minute.

If we fail to get automatic promotion then what are the odds on us bottling the play-offs?

What if we don’t even make the play-offs?

I’m not expecting miracles. But we need to be getting stronger as the end of the season looms. Not weaker. CC is fast approaching a full-blown crisis and he is going to have to stand up and prove his worth very soon.
