If either Barnsley or Swansea lose next week and we draw then we’re in.
If either Barnsley or Swansea draw next week and we win then we’re in.
If both Barnsley and Swansea win then we need to win by five goals more than Swansea and we’re in.
So we just need to beat Bradford six or seven nil and we should be OK. Easy.
Note: we spent the entire second half playing hoof-ball. It was great.
Yesterday also showed that without both Tyson and Grant up-front we are pretty toothless. Jack was a waste of time and should have been sent off (and was taken off to save himself). Holt made an impact as soon as he came on and gives the team a focus, leaving Tyson free to terrify the defenders.

The best man for the job.
Better than Sam bloody Allardyce anyway.
It’s telling that the best English candidate was McClaren (who admittedly single-handedly kept Derby in the Premiership and won Man U the Champion’s League(*)) and he did not even have the confidence of his club captain.
(*) I know they’re not all native English speakers but someone must have noticed that it’s supposed to have an apostrophe in it!

From the BBC website “Quotes of the week”:
He was fast and a good dribbler.
Arsene Wenger on the squirrel who invaded Highbury during the Champions League semi-final with Villarreal.
CHANT OF THE WEEK:
Squ-irrel, there’s only one squirrel
Arsenal fans salute the star of the show in the clash with Villarreal.

All the papers are stating that Chaz will be given the manager’s job with Barlio as his assistant.
No complaints from me with this run of form.
My idle boast, earlier in the season, that we would finish higher than Huddersfield might even come true.

Shamelessly lifted from a post by 442 on the Blooming Forest message board:
1. Forest fail to reach the playoffs.
Comment: Frank and Charlie did a heroes job.
New manager: Glenn Hoddle or Roy Keane.
Fans reaction: Fans very upset Frank and Charlie didn’t get the job, but understand it as they didn’t want it in the first place. Megson was the reason we didn’t get promoted.
Next season: Some bad results…fans turn on the new manager…”we could just as well have been left with Megson…”
2. Forest reach the playoffs, but don’t get promoted.
Comment: Frank and Charlie did a heroes job.
New manager: Glenn Hoddle or Roy Keane.
Fans reaction: Oh so close!!! Fans very angry Frank and Charlie didn’t get the job. Megson was the reason we didn’t get promoted.
Next season: Some bad results…fans turn on the new manager…”we could just as well have been left with Megson…”
3. Forest reach the playoffs, get promoted.
Comment: Frank and Charlie did a heroes job.
New manager: Glen Hoddle or Roy Keane.
Fans reaction. Extatic! What a way to finish a season! Who needs a new manager? We’ve got everything we need in the two we’ve got!
Next season: Some bad results…fans turn on the new manager…”we should have kept Frank and Charlie, they knew what they were doing, but no, ND had to go get a new one – didn’t he? We could just as well have been left with Megson…”
4. Forest reach the playoffs, get promoted.
Comment: Frank and Charlie did a heroes job.
New manager: Frank and Charlie.
Fans reaction. Extatic! What a way to finish a season!
Next season: Frank and Charlie are overmatched, doing a Paul Hart. The know-it-all shows up telling everybody they were allways in favour of Glenn Hoddle or Roy Keane taking over as manager.
Check out NFFCBasford’s fifth scenario – much more likely.

Forest’s newest player speaks to the BBC (and thinks that Megson should have gone!).

So it appears that the inconsistency (and occasional incompetence) of referees can have a significant bearing on the outcomes of a season.
Last night, Neil Danns scored two goals to give Colchester a 2-0 win over Hartlepool. This win moves them to third in the table and pretty much consolidates their place in the play-off zone.
Has anyone else noticed that Danns should not have been playing? On Saturday, after two other players (one from each team) had been booked for kicking the ball away, the referee failed to show Danns a yellow card for the same offence, which would have been his second yellow (as Colin Fray put it, it was a fine example of a referee “bottling it”).
Thankfully, Forest still managed the win on Saturday (James Perch’s goal being the slice of luck that teams sometimes need), but Danns should have been suspended last night. I wonder if those three points will make a difference come the end of the season?

So it wasn’t just Megson that prompted the Evening Post to make stuff up. It was just general poor journalism. That’s nice to know.
