That was dire. Especially the first half. Gerrard couldn’t be bothered. Commons was fat and uninterested. Perch lacked confidence. Morgan had a fat mare. Holt (G) must be wondering what he has let himself in for. Eaden was just plain shite. Only Tyson looked like he gave a shit (and earnt himself two yellow cards because of it). To be fair to Megson, he took Eaden off, put Holt the 1st on and moved Perch out of central midfield and we started to actually hold on to the ball, but by then it was all too late (although Clingan, in particular, benefitted from having the ball played to feet and looked pretty good in the second half).
Megson has talked about a “Judas in our midst”. There is talk on the internet of a “gang of six” players encouraging the other players not to turn up for training. There are rumours that Megson has lost the entire dressing room (and it certainly looked that way). I still think that it doesn’t seem to matter who we sign or who the manager is, as soon as they get here they are shite and as soon as they leave they become good again. Meaning that it must be something to do with the culture or the running of the club.
I have no confidence in Megson being the man to turn things round and I hope he has the dignity to do a Kinnear and resign. I have no confidence in the fans giving his successor enough time to fix things as the problems obviously run deeper than the Trent. The players are a total disgrace – I don’t care if you hate your boss – you are still being paid a substantial wedge of cash, by us, to kick a fucking ball around with some effort and passion. And I have no confidence in Mark Arthur or Nigel Doughty having a clue what to do to sort this rubbish out.
We are fucked.

Forest to win the European Cup (again)?
or England to win the European Championships?
One of my favourite memories is my friends and I being thrashed at football by some six year olds in the Myrtle (pub) garden – we were trollied at 11 in the morning after watching England beat Argentina (we beat Argentinaahh!) – and the great thing about it was that loads of my friends were involved, no matter which club they supported – or even if they didn’t really like football. That’s the power of international football.
But deep down, I think club football is better. It happens more often. The rivalries are deeper. The chants are better. Imagine holding three fingers up to the Man U fans (OK, so it’s not going to happen but imagine!) I’d love to beat Australia in the World Cup (Sven’s major mistake was misjudging what the English feel about Australia) but imagine defeating Colin in the FA Cup Final. It would be priceless.
Which brings me to my point. I’ve not really thought this through but a lot of people (not just Man U fans) feel like this about their clubs. Even shoddily run third division clubs with rich benefactors.
International football, in this age of million pound bungs (allegedly) and “4th place Champion’s Leagues”, just doesn’t cut it. In fact, compared to the demands of club management, it’s quite leisurely (apart from the press intrusion) – you don’t have to worry about finances, a large proportion of your squad is picked for you, you only have training for about two days every six months. As an introduction to the job of football manager you couldn’t get much better. Which is why Wales opted for Mark Hughes, Holland opted for Van Basten, Germany opted for Klinsmann.
So let’s give it to Stuart. He may not have much experience but, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter like it used to. It wasn’t Glenda’s lack of experience that did for him – it was his man-management and dodgy beliefs. Stuart doesn’t have those problems (apart from maybe that Stiff Little Fingers are worth listening to). And he’ll gain tactical know-how that will be vital when he takes our team to the Champion’s League – and let’s face it, that’s what counts.

Apologies for cross posting with my other blog, but I have just heard that Sven is to step down after the World Cup. Good, I say, but just as with Glenn Hoddle, I wish it were for football reasons rather than other stuff (although Glenn made his position untenable, I couldn’t really care less if Sven is messing around behind Nancy’s back – not that I approve of such behaviour).
I am slightly disturbed by reports that Sam Allardyce is the hot favourite – anyone else think it would be like having Mike Bassett?

“I would rather be relegated by playing our youth team then stay mid-table with the bunch of football hookers that we have season in, season out. I’d rather have a purge of all the lazy leeches. I’d rather have good honest pros and not feckless egomaniacs, wherever they come from” says John Nicholson

Bennet is a Nottingham lad, which is nice to see. Although he prefers playing the left side in a back three to left back in a back four.
And I’d not heard of Clingan (the deal’s not yet finalised) but the Chesterfield fans (where he has been on loan for nearly two seasons) seem absolutely gutted that he has gone. One the boards, I’ve seen him described as a “Paul Evans who can play football”.

“In our second promotion year I went to the ground on a Friday for a ticket. The team bus was being prepared to go to Gillingham as I passed.
I popped into the club shop to mooch for a bit and there were a load of players asking for track suit bottoms. The staff passed them out.
I asked what was going on. The lad at the counter looked up to the heavens wearily and said “Megson.” “Eh?”
“Megson had all their track suit bottom pockets sewed up so they couldn’t put their hands in their pockets during training. Now they need bottoms to put their keys and stuff in.”
He was serious. We won next game 2-0.“
